Scenario 1: Children are dirty. Clothes get dirty. Children throw dirty clothes on their floor. Resentful hardworking mom sweeps aforementioned clothing up into a laundry basket, drags it to the laundry room, washes it, and returns neatly pressed clothing to their room. Likely into their drawers or closet.
Scenario 2: Children are dirty. Clothes get dirty. Children deposit dirty clothing into the proper bin in the laundry room. Cheerful hardworking mom launders clothing and returns neatly pressed clothing to their room in a stack. They put it away.
Scenario 2 can and should be a reality! Most laundry rooms are located near the children's bedroom, and kids can easily take their dirty clothing from their bedroom to the laundry room. Likewise, kids can put their clothing away in the proper drawer, and at least attempt to hang it up on their own.
As your child continues to grow, add this simple task to their to-do-list. My husband does not dole out their $3 weekly allowance until all the clothes are picked up off the kids' floor ~ my 5 year old even subcontracted his older sister to help clean his room this week, figuring that $2 now was better than $3 later. You gotta love that entrepreneurial spirit!
